Underground Water in Punjab: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami attended the second day of the three-day ‘Living Water for All’ conference organized by Guru Nanak Nishkam Sevak Jatha Birmingham UK at Nishkam International Center Amritsar. This conference has been organized by the United Nations as part of the World Water Day being celebrated this year in 2023.
Addressing the dignitaries on the topic of ‘Study on Groundwater Storage, Depletion and Stability-Punjab Status’ during the conference, Shiromani Committee President Advocate Dhami said that brainstorming on water is a sincere approach. He said that in the context of Punjab, the ground water situation is increasing towards crisis. It is very important to discuss this important and highly sensitive topic in Punjab without any delay and adopt concrete policies required for reform.
Advocate Dhami praised the conference organized by Bhai Sahib Bhai Mahendra Singh UK, head of Guru Nanak Nishkam Sevak Jatha, and said that it is a meaningful practice to make the eternal message of the Holy Guru Granth Sahib a part of thought through this conference. He said that the holy Gurbani of the Sikh Gurus teaches us to conserve natural resources, so our priority should be to conserve natural resources.
Advocate Harjinder Singh said that Guru Nanak Nishkam Sevak Jatha’s work of bringing together various religious leaders and professional experts through this convention to jointly work on water awareness in Punjab and globally is commendable.
Addressing the gathering, Bhai Sahib Bhai Mahendra Singh UK said that there is a need to promote good human beings with virtues and values like compassion, responsibility, contentment, humility, optimism and abundance of love. We need both scientific knowledge and religious wisdom to accelerate change and make a difference. Natural resources and especially water are important for human beings, for which meaningful thinking and contemplation are necessary.
During this conference, the Dalai Lama addressed through a remote message. In addition, Brigitte von Baren from Living Peace Projects, Swami Aveshananda Giri, Swami Chidananda Saraswati, Jonathan Granoff, IIT Roorkee Professor Dr. Sharad Jain and Dr. Bhupinder Singh and other experts also addressed.
On this occasion, Bhai Inderjit Singh Bittu co-organizer, Bhai Amrik Singh, Shiromani Committee Secretary Pratap Singh, OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, Sri Darbar Sahib Manager Satnam Singh Mangasarai, Deputy Secretary Shahbaz Singh etc. were present.
