A plane carrying more than 300 Indian passengers was intercepted in France. The plane had taken off from the United Arab Emirates and was en route to Nicaragua. According to the news agency, officials said that the plane has been stopped in France on suspicion of human trafficking.

The Paris prosecutor's office said the plane was grounded on Thursday (Dec 21) following an anonymous tip over fears the passengers might be victims of human trafficking. The national anti-organized crime unit Junalco has taken over the investigation, prosecutors said. An A340 aircraft operated by Romanian company Legend Airlines remained parked at Vatri Airport after landing, the province of the North-Eastern Department said. The plane was yet to be refueled and had 303 Indian nationals on board.

A unit specializing in organized crime is investigating suspected human trafficking and two people have been detained for questioning, the Paris prosecutor's office said, according to news agency Reuters. The Marne province office said in a statement that the flight, operated by Romanian charter company Legend Airlines, had landed at the small Vatri airport for a technical stop on Thursday afternoon when police intervened.

The office said the reception hall at the Vatri airport was converted into a waiting area with individual beds for the convenience of passengers. The office said that a judicial inquiry into the matter has been started.
