He said that these teachers will be given five percent salary increment every year along with other benefits including holidays. Bhagwant Mann said that the state government has taken another historic initiative and decided that the teachers will perform the service related to teaching work only and they will not be assigned duty for any non-teaching work.

The Punjab Chief Minister said that the central government had demanded 66,000 teachers for the census in the state, which was flatly refused by him and asked the central government to recruit unemployed youth for the purpose. He said that this will help the youth in acquiring knowledge about doing government work and also in their skill development. Bhagwant Mann said that such decisions can only be taken by a person who is connected with the people at the ground level.

He said that leaders living in big houses cannot take such decisions because they are not aware of the ground realities. Bhagwant Maan said that although they do not have such big houses, but the immense love and faith of the people is their entire property and treasure. He said that when the people of the state are with him, there is no need for anything other than money and wealth.

Bhagwant Mann appealed to the teachers to make every possible effort to help the youth to create their own identity in the society. He added that the state government would soon start bus service for girl students studying in government schools and for this a pilot project would be started for 20,000 students, including 12,000 girls and 8,000 boys.

He said that a budget of 21 crore rupees has been passed for this scheme, the aim of which is to provide facilities to girl students studying in government schools. Bhagwant Mann said that these buses are equipped with GPS. The system will be equipped so that parents can monitor the movement of buses. He further said that this step will play an important role towards ensuring the safety of girls studying in government schools.
