Team India has been announced for the 3-match T20 series against Afghanistan. After the World Cup 2023, perhaps everyone was waiting the most for the team selection for this series. Whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The question was whether these two great players will be selected in this series? The decision was taken and both are back in the team. Obviously, this will make the fans of Rohit and Virat happy but also the question is that if Rohit and Virat can make a comeback then why not KL Rahul?
The team selection for this series was quite a challenge for BCCI's senior selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar. The biggest question was about the performance of Rohit and Kohli. After the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022, both the giants had not played any match in this format. In the last one year both the team managers have given maximum opportunities to the young players and it seemed that the change has started but looking at the current squad this misunderstanding is dispelled.
Why doesn't Rahul get a chance?
Apart from Rohit and Kohli, KL Rahul was also included in the 2022 squad and he too did not play a T20 match after the semi-final. Due to the slow batting of Rahul, Rohit and Kohli at the top order, there was a demand for their removal. This happened for a year but now Virat and Rohit are back. While Rahul has been kept out so far and this has raised questions as to why the same stand has not been taken against all three? If Rohit and Virat can get a chance then why not Rahul?

Rahul's record in front of Rohit-Kohli
As far as records are concerned, here too KL is far behind Rahul Kohli and Rohit. However, his career has also been shorter than these two stars. Kohli has scored 4008 runs in 115 T20 international matches, Rohit has scored 3853 runs in 148 matches and Rahul has scored 2265 runs in 72 matches. However, the most important thing in T20 is the strike rate and there is not much difference between these three. Kohli's strike rate is 137.96, Rohit's 139.24 and Rahul's 139.12.
In such a situation, Rahul's non-election is incomprehensible. Especially in the current circumstances, the importance of KL Rahul is increasing, when he is playing the role of wicketkeeper-batsman in the middle order. Here he can carry the team as well as play the role of a finisher. Rahul's claim is no less even considering his recent form. He also performed brilliantly in the World Cup and scored a quick hundred in 62 balls. Then he also scored a brilliant century in the Test series against South Africa.
Selection based on merit or reputation?
If we talk about the reason, then the biggest reason seems to be something else. All three players seem to be more a matter of their reputation than their ability. If we look at his entire career, Rahul is neither a player of the stature of Virat and Rohit, nor does he have the fan following and market value of these two giants. In such a situation, to keep Rohit and Virat in the team, apart from their performance, it is necessary to take care of issues like broadcasters and sponsors.
If Rohit can play the T20 world cup then why not KL RAHUL…
I have nothing against Rohit but why not kl Rahul 💔#KLRahul#T20WorldCup2024pic.twitter.com/jBhxQWDWlW— KL BASIT (@klbasit1) January 7, 2024
According to a PTI report, a former BCCI selector also said that these factors are also very important in the selection of Rohit and Kohli. Rahul is seen to be lagging behind in this matter and in such a situation, the pressure on the selectors to choose Rahul is seen to be less. Whether Rahul should be selected in the squad or not is a different matter but not selecting Rohit and Kohli when they are selected certainly raises questions about the intentions of the team management and the selection committee.
