Brainstorming in BJP after Bihar victory: Will get new national president by January 2026!

After BJP’s landslide victory in Bihar and becoming the largest party, preparations have started in all the states for the formation of electoral college to elect the next national president of the party. Organizational elections have been completed in 29 states and the election process is ongoing only in major states like Uttar Pradesh, hence the process of electing the new national president has entered the decisive phase. The new party chief is expected to be selected by January 2026.

A senior party source indicated that after January 14, when Kharmas, considered inauspicious in the Hindu calendar, ends and the auspicious phase begins, the process will gain momentum. A top BJP functionary said all preparations and processes are progressing with organizational elections in states as well as across all regions, and the election of the new national president is expected to be held by January 2026. He further said that the electoral colleges for the elections are being finalized. Organizational elections have been completed in 29 state units, while formalities are still underway in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.

Meanwhile, three names are doing the rounds in saffron circles as successors to current national president JP Nadda, who is currently on extension. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, and Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav and Shivraj Singh Chouhan are among the prominent names being discussed, a senior official said. Of these, Maurya, considered close to both the RSS and Amit Shah, and Pradhan, who was election in-charge during the Bihar election campaign, have emerged as the most prominent contenders.

Similarly, Dharmendra Pradhan, a Union minister in the current Modi cabinet, has established himself as a highly effective BJP leader, and has contributed significantly to many of the party’s election victories in recent years, including in Bihar. A senior source said that if Shah formulated the strategy, Pradhan ensured its successful implementation at the ground level. Both Pradhan and Shivraj Singh Chauhan can become strong contenders for this post.
