730 days leave to take care of government employees children!

Child Care Leave in India: Vacation is a word that working people feel so happy to hear that everyone describes in different ways. If he gets leave and no money is deducted from his salary, what about him? But you know that private and government jobs have different leave rules. Most importantly every woman has her own concerns about child care.

The rule is to give women 26 weeks of maternity leave at the time of child birth. But does he get a vacation to take care of him? In this regard, the government in the Lok Sabha has made it clear for the government employees that how many days leave they can take during the entire job. Which men are included in it? The government has also clarified this while answering a question.

1. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jatinder Singh told the Lok Sabha that women government employees can take 730 days of leave for child care during their service.

2. The minister said that like women, single men (widowers or divorcees) can also take 730 days leave during their service to take care of their children.

3. Female Government Servants or lone male Government Servants appointed in civil services and posts are also eligible for Child Care Leave (CCL) under Rule 43-C of the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972.

4. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister Jitinder Singh said that the Child Care Rules provide for 730 days of childcare leave for the two eldest children up to the age of 18 years.

5. The Minister said that if the child of a female or male government employee is disabled then there is no age limit in this case. In respect of taking leave for the care of a disabled child, the Government servant has to submit the certificate of dependency on the child and other relevant documents.

6. Hitherto, a man was entitled to 15 days leave within six months of the birth or adoption of a child. In 2022, the Women’s Panel proposed extending maternity leave to reduce the burden on mothers.

7. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said a few weeks ago that his government will provide 12 months maternity leave and one month paternity leave to its employees. CM Tamang had said that this benefit will help government employees take better care of their children and families.

8. On the other hand, if we talk about other countries, Spain allows 16 weeks of paternity leave, while Sweden allows three months, Finland allows 164 days of leave for both mother and father.

9. There is no paternity leave under federal law in the United States, but Canada provides five additional weeks of leave (for a total of 40 weeks) for the other parent.

10. The UK allows up to 50 weeks of shared parental leave. Singapore also has a rule that gives employees two weeks of paid paternity leave.
