Chandigarh: Environmentalist and Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal demanded the intervention of the Indian government to prevent the deportation of 700 Punjabi students by the Canadian government.

In the memorandum written by Sant Seechewal to the Foreign Minister, he said that these 700 Punjabi students have given lakhs of rupees as fees to the Canadian government, there is no fault of them. They have been cheated by travel agents.

So action should also be taken against the travel agents and not against the 700 innocent students who have gone there to make their future. Sant Seechewal said that the parents of these students have taken the loans and paid the fees, and in such circumstances such news is very sad for them. He urged the Foreign Minister to take this matter seriously and contact the Government of Canada so that the future of these students can be secured. He said that he will raise this matter in the Parliament as well.

In another letter written to the Foreign Minister, Sant Seechewal raised the issue of not sending back to Punjab a victim woman trapped in Muscat. He said that he was contacted by the victim’s family regarding this. He said in the letter that on the request of the Indian Embassy in Muscat, he had sent a ticket for a woman named Swaranjit Kaur so that she could return to her family as soon as possible.

But due to the negligence of the Indian Embassy, โ€‹โ€‹the victim could not come to Punjab and the ticket was also cancelled. Sant Seechewal demanded that the matter of not sending back the victim woman should be investigated and action should be taken against the responsible officer and the victim woman should be brought back to India as soon as possible.
