Due to rain in different parts of Punjab, the mercury dropped to 2.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Due to this, people got relief from the sweltering heat for the last few days. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is likely to occur in most parts of Punjab from Wednesday for the next four days, due to which people will get relief from the heat. Especially, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for July 6, 7 and 8.
The temperature in Punjab is increasing day by day for the last three days. The highest temperature was recorded at 40.7 degree Celsius in Faridkot of the state. Apart from this, mercury was recorded at 35.6 in Amritsar, 33.7 in Ludhiana, 35.0 in Patiala, 34.0 in Pathankot, 40.4 in Bathinda, 33.0 in Gurdaspur, 39.6 in Muktsar.

Patiala received the highest rainfall of 25.0 mm throughout the day on Tuesday. Along with this, SBS and Ropar received maximum rainfall of 23.5-23.5 mm till 8.30 am. Apart from these, 5.8 mm of rain fell in Chandigarh, 8.8 mm in Amritsar, 2.6 mm in Ludhiana, 15.4 mm in Pathankot, 2.0 mm in Fatehgarh Sahib, 0.5 mm each in Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur. A decrease of 0.6 degrees was recorded in the minimum temperature of Punjab. It was close to normal. The lowest temperature here was recorded at 22.7 degrees.
