Singhanwala Toll Plaza Closed: Giving great relief to the people, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann closed the 10th toll plaza in the state on the Moga-Kotakpura road near village Chandpurana. By closing 10 toll plazas in Punjab so far, the common people are saving 44.43 lakh rupees daily.

Talking to reporters after closing the Singhawala toll plaza, the Chief Minister said that people had to pay Rs 44.43 lakh as toll daily while passing through these 10 toll plazas. He said that now with the closure of this toll, the people have got a huge financial relief. Bhagwant Mann said that while passing through this Singhawala toll plaza on the Moga-Kotakpura road, people had to pay a toll of 4.68 lakh rupees daily, due to which this money will be saved by the closure of the toll.

Bhagwant Mann expressed grief that these toll plazas are actually shops robbing the common people. He said that these toll plazas have flouted the rules of the agreement with the government to exploit the people economically. Bhagwant Mann said that it is very surprising that the previous governments instead of taking any action against the toll managers in the interest of the people, on the contrary, protected them and deliberately did not pay any attention to the looting of the people.

The Chief Minister said that though people elect governments to protect their interests, blind politicians in power made such defaulters shields only for their own interests. He said that the previous governments ignored the needs of these toll plazas and allowed them to collect money illegally without bothering the common people. Bhagwant Mann said that no facility of ambulance or recovery van was seen at any of the closed toll plazas despite the provision in the agreement.

CM Mann said that the agreement for this toll plaza was signed on September 25, 2006 during the Captain government and the toll was imposed for sixteen and a half years. He said that there was a delay of 158 days in the work of putting the first look on the road by the company due to which the company was fined Rs 2.48 crore. Bhagwant Mann said that this fine was never recovered from the company by the government of that time.

He added that under the agreement, the toll could have been closed on November 10, 2019, when the work of laying the look was again delayed for the second time and the company was fined Rs 3.89 crore for this mistake. He said that it was a violation of the agreement by the government as the agreement could have been terminated by the government if the penalty amount was more than Rs 3.11 crore. Bhagwant Mann said that it is never the case that the people in power have given a free pass to the company to violate the rules.

Also, the Punjab CM said that after coming to power, his government had started the process of closing these toll plazas, according to which these toll plazas have been closed. Attacking the Congress leaders for giving misleading statements in this regard, the Chief Minister said that the Congress leaders should make it clear to the people why these toll plazas were not closed during their tenure. Bhagwant Mann said that Congress actually patronized these toll plazas, due to which they never took action against the erring toll companies. The Chief Minister said that the purpose of stopping the toll is not to gain fame but its purpose is to give relief to the people.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that this toll operating company was demanding an extension on the pretext of farmers’ movement and the Kovid epidemic, but his government flatly refused it. He said that it is necessary to give notice to the company 60 days in advance, due to which he has closed the toll plaza today by giving notice to the company. Bhagwant Mann said that this work should have been done earlier but the politicians of the previous government did not take any step to protect the interests of the people but they protected the rights of the companies managing the toll plaza.

The Chief Minister clearly said that every penny looted from the people will be recovered from these companies and the due amount will also be paid from these companies by legal means. He said that more such toll plazas will be closed in the coming days to give relief to the people. Bhagwant Mann reiterated the firm commitment of the state government to ensure all-round development of Punjab and prosperity of the people.
