The released data on road accidents in the year 2022 shows that working people in the age group of 18 to 60 years in India are the most victims. A total of 1.6 lakh people died in road accidents last year and more than 4 lakh people were seriously injured. Of these, 61,038 deaths occurred on national highways, 41,012 on state highways and 66,441 on other roads.
According to the report, 67,000 people died in accidents due to wrong side driving in 2022. According to the report, a total of 4,61,312 road accidents were recorded last year. Of these accidents, 1,51,997 people died on national highways including expressways, while 1,06,682 people died on state highways.
Young people are the most affected
According to a report by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, 66.5 percent of the deaths in accidents in 2022 are in the age group of 18-45 years. While the working age group of 18-60 years is 83.4 percent. It has been said that most of the youth have been victims of road accidents.
How many deaths in UP and Tamil Nadu
For the fifth year in a row, UP has topped the list of states affected by the highest number of road accidents. Last year, 22,595 people died in accidents here. This was followed by 17,884 deaths in Tamil Nadu. This southern state tops the number of road accidents with 64,105 accidents. It is followed by Madhya Pradesh, which has recorded 54,432 accidents.
An average of 462 deaths every day
The report revealed a frightening statistic. The number of road accidents increased by 11.9 percent in 2022 as compared to 2021 and similarly the number of road accident deaths and injuries increased by 9.4 and 15.3 percent respectively. According to the report, there are 1,264 accidents and 462 deaths every day or 53 accidents and 19 deaths every hour.
The report has said that the number of road accidents and deaths are also increasing due to high speed driving by the youth on the National Highway.
