Wrestlers' meeting with sports minister ends, government seeks time till June 15 to take action on Brij Bhushan

Wrestlers Protest: The six-hour long meeting between Union Minister Anurag Thakur and wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia has ended on Wednesday. This meeting was held at Anurag’s house. The government asked the wrestlers for time till June 15 and said that let the investigation be completed, action will be taken. But till then there will be no demonstration. The wrestlers have agreed.

After the meeting with Anurag Thakur, wrestler Sakshi Malik said that the government has requested not to hold any demonstration till June 15. However, our protest is not over yet.

Cases filed against wrestlers will be withdrawn

On the other hand, Bajrang Punia said that he will talk to representatives of Khap Panchayat about the meeting with the government. A conclusion will be reached by consensus of all. On the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Sports Minister has assured to complete the investigation and take action based on the report.

He also said that the safety of women wrestlers will also be taken care of. We have requested that all the FIRs against the wrestlers be withdrawn and they have agreed to this.

Instructions to hold elections till June 30

Anurag Thakur said that there has been a positive dialogue with the wrestlers on a very sensitive issue. After completing the investigation of the allegations in the issues discussed in this meeting which lasted for about 6 hours, the charge sheet should be filed by June 15 and the wrestling federation should be elected by June 30. An internal grievance committee of the wrestling federation should be formed and headed by a woman.

The wrestlers put these five demands before the sports minister

Free and fair elections of the Wrestling Federation of India.
The president of the wrestling federation should be a woman.
Brij Bhushan Singh or his family members cannot be part of WFI.
The cases filed against the wrestlers after the May 28 protest should be withdrawn.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should be arrested.
