Teacher’s Day 2023: Today 5th September is celebrated as Teacher’s Day every year in the country. The day is dedicated to the country’s first Vice President and second President, scholar, philosopher and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. History of Teacher’s Day
This is the year 1962, when Dr. As Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan took office as the second President of India, some of his former students approached him and sought permission to celebrate his birthday on 5 September.
On this, he suggested that instead of celebrating his birthday, Teacher’s Day should be celebrated on this day to honor all teachers. After this the then government declared this day as Teacher’s Day and since then 5th September every year was celebrated as Teacher’s Day. Let it be known that Dr. Radhakrishnan once said that “Teachers should have the best minds in the country.” Along with this, in the year 1954, he was honored with the Bharat Ratna.
A day of celebration for students
This day is a day of celebration for students. On this day, children also give gifts, chocolates and sweets to their teachers and other types of greetings. Students in schools and colleges also organize cultural programs for their teachers.
