Tata Ford Plant: Domestic vehicle maker Tata Motors is set to start commercial operations in the next 12-18 months at the Sanand manufacturing plant acquired from American company Ford to increase its production.
Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle business head Shailesh Chandra said in an analyst call that the company is targeting to start operations at the Ford plant at Sanand in Gujarat in the next one-and-a-half years.
Tata Motors has recently completed the acquisition of this plant through its subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML). A transaction of Rs 726 crore has taken place in this acquisition.
Work at the Sanand plant with a production capacity of three lakh vehicles has come to a standstill since Ford wrapped up its business from India in the year 2021. During this time Tata Motors made up its mind to acquire this plant to increase its production capacity.
This Ford plant is adjacent to the existing Tata Motors plant located in Sanand. Tata Motors will also make necessary investments to adapt it to the platform of its existing and future vehicles.
The company’s current production capacity is around 50,000 vehicles per month, Chandra said. We are also going to increase our two existing plants by 10-15 percent. Apart from this, the capacity of the Ford plant can also be increased to 4.2 lakh units annually.
Along with this, he said that the work of adapting Tata Motors vehicles to the strict second stage of BS-6 emission standards is going on fast. The government has set a deadline of April 1, 2023 for this. (with language input)
