A big announcement was made by the Chief Minister regarding the Panchayat elections. He said that in the villages where panchayats are elected unanimously, they will be given 5 lakh rupees each. He shared the information by tweeting.

In a tweet, CM Mann wrote – In the panchayat elections, we want to restore the old atmosphere again..when the sarpanch belonged to the village and not a party and we want to restore the dignity of the panchayat member. He used to give a grant of 2-2 lakhs to the villages who conducted Sarb Samiti… Now as the Chief Minister, I will give a grant of 5-5 lakh to those who conducted Sarb Samiti in the villages of Punjab…

Chief Minister Mann said that earlier, when a Sarpanch was elected, he was called the Sarpanch of the village, but when political people introduced politics even in the villages, the villages were divided into factions. Tournaments also began to be 2-2. Then a lot of fights started happening in the panchayat elections and the expenses also started getting high. 25 to 30 lakh rupees were being spent on panchayat elections in many big villages.

He said that I do not want there to be factionalism in the villages. Earlier Panchas were considered to be the abode of God. They were respected. I want to restore it again.

I want there to be no factionalism in the villages. If there is brotherhood, I will try to ensure that the Sarpanch belongs to the village. Sarpanch should not belong to any party. In the villages where the Sarpanch is unanimously elected, they will be given 5 lakh rupees each.
