Water again released towards Pakistan, the neighboring country kept its flood gate open

Chandigarh : Once again the neighboring country has done its duty. Punjab has released 14 thousand 900 cusecs of water from Madhopur headworks to Pakistan. 14 thousand 900 cusecs of water has been released to Pakistan today by opening six gates from Madhopur headworks to generate electricity from Ranjit Sagar Dam. Yesterday at 5 o’clock in the evening, the water level in the lake of Ranjit Sagar dam has increased to 523.25 meters and 35 thousand 800 cusecs of water was coming from the mountains in the lake of the dam. 600 MW electricity is being generated by running all four units of the dam and after generating electricity 19 thousand 828 cusecs of water is being released downstream towards Madhopur headworks.

According to Pradeep Kumar, SDO of Madhopur Headworks, water has to be released to Pakistan due to reduced demand for water in the downstream districts of Gurdaspur and Amritsar. He said that currently no water is being released in the MB Link canal, while 3900 cusecs of water is being sent to UBDC canals and 14 thousand 900 cusecs of water is being sent to Pakistan.

Chief Engineer of Shahpurkandi Dam Sher Singh said that the construction work of the main dam of Shahpurkandi Dam is going on at war level. After the completion of this work, water will be started to be stored behind the dam in the form of a lake.

On the other hand, BBMB opened the flood gates of Pong Dam yesterday evening as a precaution. The BBMB administration had given advance notice of this by issuing a letter to the respective states a day ago. 22,300 cusecs of water from the dam is being released in the Shah Canal barrage, out of which 17,923 cusecs of water is being released through the power house and the remaining 4,377 cusecs of water is being released through the spillway.
