Vigilance Bureau caught BDPO taking bribe at Batala

Punjab Vigilance Bureau has succeeded in arresting another bribe taker under the campaign to eradicate corruption from the state. Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Vipan Kumar Sharma posted at Batala of district Gurdaspur was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs.15,000.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the said BDPO. The arrest has been made after a complaint filed by Happy Gill, a resident of Sekhawan village in Gurdaspur district.

The complainant contacted the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that his wife is the Sarpanch of village Sekhawan and the accused is BDPO. had demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 in exchange for clearing the bills of Rs 1,33,000 for the purchase of cement used in the development works of the village.

The complainant further stated that the deal was settled for Rs 30,000. BDPO took Rs 15,000 on November 20 and is demanding the balance. The spokesperson further said that after receiving this complaint, Vigilance Bureau Range Amritsar laid a trap after preliminary investigation and caught BDPO Vipan Kumar Sharma red-handed after taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

In this regard, a case was registered under FIR 38 on November 22, 2023 under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Amritsar Range. He said that the accused will be produced in the honorable court tomorrow and further investigation of the matter is going on.
