Vigilance Bureau arrested Assistant Sub Inspector while taking bribe

As part of the ongoing campaign against corruption in Punjab, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Dilbar Khan (No. 1479/Sangrur) posted in Police Station City-2, Malerkotla for accepting a bribe of Rs. 35,000.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the said policeman has been arrested on the complaint of Mohammad Yamin, a resident of Mohalla Milkh, Malerkotla. Giving more information in this regard, he said that the complainant approached the economic crime wing of the Vigilance Bureau, Ludhiana range and alleged that the said police officer asked him to give a statement in exchange for a compromise in the case registered regarding the dispute of relatives and to cancel the case in the High Court. 45,000 was demanded as bribe.

The complainant further said that the said A. S. I. 10,000 had already been taken as the first installment of bribe. The spokesman said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the team of Economic Crime Wing of Vigilance Range Ludhiana arrested the said policeman on the spot by accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

A case has been registered against this ASI under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Police Station Vigilance Bureau Economic Offenses Branch Ludhiana Range and further investigation of the matter is going on.
