A shooting outside a funeral home in the 4000 block of Washington DC left one person dead and three others wounded. The shooting happened about 20 minutes after the funeral of a homicide victim who was shot to death last month, according to police. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Conti said the victim’s family had asked police to station officers near the funeral.
“At this point, a lot of people who were in the block were specifically targeted,” Conti said. We’re not sure why,” Conti said.
“We are not sure why this is, why these people were targeted, more or less why they were targeted at the funeral. We don’t understand that,” he added.
The person killed in Tuesday’s shooting was identified as an adult male and the three injured — two men and a woman — were taken to the hospital in critical condition, the Associated Press news agency reported, citing a spokeswoman for D.C. Fire and EMS. .
No arrests have been made in this case yet and further details are awaited.
The shooting in Washington DC came after a bank employee in Louisville, Kentucky shot and killed five colleagues armed with a rifle and wounded nine others, including two police officers, during a live-streaming of the attack on social media. The shooter, identified as Connor Sturgeon, was shot dead at the scene, police said.
Police added that Sturgeon joined the downtown branch of the Old National Bank last year as a full-time employee.
