Uproar over MSP, farmers on the streets again

Haryana Farmer Protest: Controversy over procurement of sunflower at minimum support price (MSP) is increasing in Haryana. The farmers called a Mahapanchayat in Kurukshetra on June 12 regarding this matter. In this, the government was also invited for talks. But no one from the government reached this Mahapanchayat.

After which the farmers got angry and blocked the Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar National Highway in Pipli. In such a situation, the situation appeared to be tense again. Meanwhile, the statement of farmer leader Rakesh Tikait came out. He said that we did not jam the highway, we are sitting here.

Besides Rakesh Tikait, leader of various Khaps and Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Olympic medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia was also present in this Mahapanchayat. “MSP Dilao, Kisan Bachao Mahapanchayat” called by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) was organized at a grain market near National Highway 44 in Pipli.

Rakesh Tikait put these demands before the government

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said that we have demands. First, the arrested farmers should be released. Second, start buying sunflowers at the minimum support price. We are ready for talks with the government. For this purpose we had gathered in Kurukshetra.

He said that the government was also invited for talks in this regard but no one came from them. After the Mahapanchayat, the farmers blocked the Chandigarh-Delhi National Highway. Farmers have installed tractors on both sides of the road and are sitting there.

Let us tell you that a few days ago farmers had blocked this highway demanding the government to buy sunflower seeds at the minimum support price. Police used water cannons and lathicharge to disperse the protesters. Later, 9 leaders including the president of BKU (Charuni) were arrested on various charges including rioting and illegal assembly. Addressing the Mahapanchayat, some farmer leaders criticized the government’s anti-farmer policies and police action against farmer leaders.
