Two persons arrested with 20 kg of heroin

SSOC Fazilka: Director General of Punjab Police Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday that in a major blow to cross-border smugglers under the anti-drug campaign on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Police has foiled a major drug smuggling attempt by Pakistan-based smugglers after arresting two persons with 20 kg of heroin.

The arrested persons have been identified as Subeg Singh of Lakhmir K Uttar in Fazilka and Sandeep Singh alias Seepa of Mansa village in Fazilka. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that reliable sources had informed about the attempt of smugglers in Pakistan to bring a large amount of heroin and based on this information, the police teams of SSOC Fazilka conducted an extensive operation on Hasteke Road near Rano village of Fazilka, where the said accused were feared to have received the consignment of drugs dropped by drone from the border. He said that on seeing the police party, the accused tried to flee from the spot on their motorcycle, but the police team caught the accused after a short struggle and recovered a total of 20 kg of heroin in 10 packets from the accused.

Giving more information in this regard, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) SSOC Fazilka Lakhbir Singh said that further investigation is being carried out to identify other people involved in this module. He said that there is a possibility of more arrests in the coming days.

NDPS at Thana SSOC, Fazilka. Suit No. 24 dated 23.07.2023 has been registered under Sections 21(c), 23 and 29 of the Act.
