Transport Minister of Punjab Laljit Singh Bhullar said today that two drivers who stole 35 liters of diesel in two separate cases have been arrested as part of the campaign launched to curb wrongdoings in the public bus service of the state.

The Transport Minister said that the Minister’s Flying Squad had checked at various places in Haryana in the past. He said that Rajpal Singh, the driver of Bus No. PB-12-Y 1540 of Panbus Depot Rupnagar, was caught red-handed while stealing about 20 liters of diesel during the checking done at Sirsa Bus Stand at 10:30 last night.

Similarly, during night checking at the bus stand of Hisar (Haryana), Panbus Depot Sri Muktsar Sahib bus number PB-04-AA. Lakhwinder Singh, the driver of 7459, has been reported in the case of theft of about 15 liters of diesel.

Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that apart from this, the Minister’s Flying Squad has also reported a bus running on an unauthorized route. In this case, during checking at Mullanpur Dakha, driver Baldev Singh and conductor Harpal Singh were caught taking the bus on an unauthorized route, which was causing financial loss to the department by leaving the passengers on the original route. This Ferozepur Depot bus (No. PB-05-AB 5350) was being taken from the bridge instead of Mullanpur bus stand.

Similarly, bus number PB-02-EG 9376 of Amritsar-2 depot at Balachore was found standing at an unauthorized dhaba. Driver Ranjit Singh and conductor Jagjit Singh have been reported in this case.

The Transport Minister has ordered departmental officials to take appropriate departmental action against the nominated drivers and conductors in these cases.
