Belgium and German’s interest in visiting Greece has marked a notable increase this year, according to the data provided by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
While pre-bookings from Belgium travellers have increased significantly compared to last year, the German market is also showing an increase in interest in visiting the Hellenic Republic this year, especially in marine tourism, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Regarding the issue, the figures provided by TUI Belgium revealed that a total of 59 per cent of Belgium travellers are interested to travel at least twice this year, with an average spending per person to reach a total of 1,330 euros or an increase by 8 per cent compared to pre-pandemic levels registered in 2019.
Authorities in Greece are continuously attempting to bring to the country a large number of internationals, thus making the Hellenic Republic among the most favorite tourism destinations, and helping the economic sector further grow.
Recently, the Greek Ministry of Tourism announced that it will introduce a new project worth about 150 million euros, taking also into account ski center upgrades, as well as the promotion of mountain destinations, and enhancement of agritourism and gastronomy.
Regarding the issue, Deputy Tourism Minister, Sofia Zacharaki, unfolded such plans during a meeting held in Kastoria with the country’s authorities.
Zacharaki confirmed that a total of 56 million euros will be allocated to help the further promotion of the tourism industry, while 28 million will be granted for the development of wellness tourism and 17 million to promote agritourism as well as gastronomy.
“The wider region is one of the most up-and-coming tourist destinations in Greece. Our goal is to significantly support the region’s development dynamic, especially through the promotion of alternative forms of tourism,” Zacharaki pointed out regarding the issue.
Greece is among the European countries that managed to welcome a large number of international visitors to the country, despite the difficulties caused by the preventive measures such as travel bans and other entry restrictions imposed due to the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants.
A recent report revealed that the Hellenic Republic aims to become the main destination for passengers from Balkan countries, while the number of road arrivals from these territories increased by 40 per cent compared to the figures of last year.
The figures provided by the Minister of Tourism noted that air passenger traffic in this country remained only down by 1.9 per cent in 2022, compared to 2019 figures.
