Despite all the efforts in Punjab, the trend of deaths due to drugs is not stopping. A young man died under suspicious circumstances in Jalandhar’s Baba Deep Singh Nagar on Saturday. The cause of death is said to be drug overdose. However, the police say that the situation will be clear only after the post-mortem report. Along with this, three youths were found unconscious on the side of the highway in Samrala of Ludhiana, who have been identified and handed over to their families.

Sanjay Sharma, father of Bhavuk Sharma (20), who lost his life due to drugs in Jalandhar, said that his son was addicted to drugs. He was undergoing treatment at a de-addiction center. He was discharged from there on September 11. He had left home late on Friday evening saying he was going to meet friends but did not return home till late night. Called many times but got no answer. After some time, when he called again, a passer-by picked up his phone and told that his son was lying unconscious near Kalia Colony.

Sanjay Sharma said that when he reached the spot along with his colleagues, the victim was lying there in a state of unconsciousness. He picked her up and brought her home. As soon as he reached home, his condition became more critical. After this, he was taken to Pims Hospital, where he died. The family informed the police. Police say that whether the youth died due to drug overdose or not, it will be revealed only after the post-mortem report. According to the statements of the father, if the family had informed the police at the time of the incident, the young man’s life could have been saved.

On the other hand, three youths who were found in a state of unconsciousness near Bondli village of Samrala in Ludhiana were taken to Thana Sadar. Where he was admitted to a government hospital. The mother of the youth who reached the spot said that her husband was very ill. The youth may have bought drugs with the money they got from selling the motorcycle from home.

It is worth mentioning that recently 5 youths have died due to drug addiction in Khanna. On the orders of SSP Amanit Kondal, anti-drug seminars are being conducted in the area but these efforts are proving to be insufficient. SHO Samrala Bhinder Singh said that the police is taking strict action.

According to the data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 310 people have lost their lives due to drugs in the last 20 months in the state. Among them, the number of young people is more.
