The Punjab government has decided to convene the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha by the end of November. This decision has come after the orders given by the Supreme Court on November 10. Only after the governor declared the session illegal, the Punjab government challenged it in the Supreme Court. The Punjab government will soon seek approval from the governor for the session.

The House adjourned after the session was declared illegal

Along with this, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has given approval to start the process of permanently extending the fourth session (budget session) of the current Legislative Assembly. Earlier, the meeting of the fourth session convened on October 20-21 was postponed indefinitely. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann asked the Assembly Speaker to adjourn the session indefinitely, accusing the Governor of stalling the bills.

Approval will be sought from Governor Purohit

The state government has decided to convene the assembly session by the end of November. After fixing the time and approval of the Chief Minister, the state government will now write to the Punjab Legislative Assembly Secretariat to hold the session permanently. After which it will be sent to Governor Banwari Lal Purohit’s Secretariat for its approval.

The session was declared constitutionally valid

The Supreme Court has declared the session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to be held on June 19 and 20 as constitutionally valid. The court has said that it is not right for the Governor to question the validity of the Legislative Assembly session. The Governor should consider this session legitimate and take a decision on the bill pending with him.

The Supreme Court said in a strict tone that they are not happy with what is happening in the state. The Legislative Assembly consists of elected representatives of the people, so it is not constitutionally correct for the Governor to declare the session illegal. The bench has also questioned the action of declaring the assembly session unconstitutional.
