Pulse Polio Campaign: Health and Family Welfare Minister of Punjab to keep the state safe from polio virus. Balbir Singh Shaheed will start a three-day pulse polio campaign from Bhagat Singh Nagar district. For the year 2023, Pulse Polio Round will be conducted from May 28 to May 30 in 12 districts of Punjab.

Explaining the importance of pulse polio campaign, Dr. Balbir Singh said that although no case of wild polio virus has been reported in Punjab since 2010 and the last case of polio was reported in October 2009 in Ludhiana, but still there are cases of polio virus in Punjab from neighboring countries especially Pakistan and Afghanistan. There is a danger of coming into This is the reason why polio campaign is conducted from time to time in the state.

He further said that the risk of polio virus entering the state is more important as the highest number of polio cases have come from neighboring Pakistan in the last few years.

Transit teams have already been deployed at the Attari border to ensure vaccination of persons crossing the Indo-Pak border. Similarly, vaccination sites have been established at Dera Baba Nanak, District Gurdaspur Chowki on opening of Kartarpur Corridor.

Director Health Services (Family Welfare) Dr. Ravinder Pal Kaur said that this round will be held in 12 districts including Amritsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fazilka, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Mansa, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Pathankot, Patiala, SBS Nagar and Tarn Taran. Booths will be set up on the first day and polio drops will be administered from house to house on the remaining two days. The health department has set a target of covering 14,83,072 children under the age of five in this round.

Dr. Balbir Singh said that 7054 booths will be set up, 13136 door-to-door teams, 334 mobile teams and 279 transit teams have been formed for the successful implementation of this campaign. Apart from this, a total of 27109 vaccinators will be deployed. He further said that 1335 supervisors will supervise the work of vaccinators.

Along with this, the teams will also visit 5109 high risk areas which include 2107 slums, 132 construction sites, 902 nomadic sites, 132 brick kilns and 729 other sites. State Immunization Officer Dr. Balwinder Kaur said that the campaign will be monitored in all the 12 districts by state observers from the DHS office and NPSP-WHO monitors and vaccination teams will also follow the guidelines related to Covid.
