The Taliban have banned the sale of contraceptives. The use of contraceptives by women has been described by the Taliban as a Western plot to control the Muslim population. According to the report, pharmacists in Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif confirmed that they have been ordered not to stock contraceptives.
The operator of a medical store in Kabul said birth control pills and injections such as Depo-Provera have not been allowed to be stocked since the beginning of this month, and they are afraid to sell existing stock. Taliban are threatening midwives by going door to door. A store operator said that the Taliban came to the store twice with guns and threatened to stop the sale of contraceptive pills immediately. Regularly they are visiting every pharmacy in Kabul city.

An elderly midwife said that she was threatened several times. He said that a Taliban commander had said that it is not allowed to give information to people about population control. This is a conspiracy of western countries.

Universities for girls have been closed and women have been forced out of jobs. Banning contraceptives would be a significant blow to a country with an already weak health system.
