The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict today on the petition against the cancellation of Article 370, which gives special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Four years after Jammu and Kashmir lost its special status following the abrogation of Article 370 and the state was reorganized into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict today.

A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud reserved its verdict on September 5 after hearing all the parties. The bench comprises Justices SK Kaul, Sanjeev Khanna, BR Gwai and Surya Kant.

It may be mentioned that Article 370, which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated by the central government on 5 August 2019 and the state was divided into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
