The rain has caused heavy destruction in Auckland, the largest city of New Zealand. Two people died and two are missing due to rain. A state of emergency has been declared in Auckland and the country’s new Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has visited the city in a military aircraft to assess the situation.

Hipkins said the rain has affected the city a lot. They have advised Aucklanders to be prepared to deal with any situation given the possibility of heavy rain. Earlier, hundreds of people were stranded at Auckland Airport overnight after all flights were canceled and some parts of the terminal were flooded.

Domestic flights in and out of Auckland have resumed but it is not yet certain when international flights will resume. February 27 is the wettest day ever recorded in Auckland. More than 15 cm of rain fell in some places in three hours in the last evening. The police said that they have recovered the dead bodies of two people. Two persons were reported missing after being swept away by the flood waters.
