The counting in Pakistan is now at the last stage and along with Imran Khan's party, Nawaz Sharif has also made big claims of his party's victory. Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) top leader Nawaz Sharif has said that his party has emerged as the 'single largest party' after the general elections. He has announced the formation of a new government in Pakistan. He also said that the party cannot form the government on its own. After his announcement, efforts to form a government in Pakistan have intensified.

“We respect the mandate of all parties and independent candidates,” former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said during an address in Lahore on Friday. He said that it is the responsibility of PML-N to get the country out of crisis. He also announced efforts to form a new government in the country.

Any party will need 133 of the 265 seats in the National Assembly to form a new government in Pakistan. But the election to one seat was postponed after the death of a candidate. In such a case, 169 out of 336 seats are needed to get a majority, including seats reserved for women and minorities.

According to the data released by the Election Commission, out of the 220 results announced so far, Nawaz Sharif's PML-N has won 62 seats while Bilawal Bhutto's PPP has won 49 seats. Along with this, 90 independent candidates have won, including many independent candidates supported by Imran Khan's party.

Meanwhile, according to media reports, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has reached Lahore and is likely to meet top PML-N leaders regarding government formation. The incident came after Nawaz Sharif proposed to form a unity government at the Centre.

Nawaz hinted at 'unity government'

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said that he respects the mandate of all political parties and independent candidates and invites them to unite with the former ruling party for the future of the country. He also said, “Our only agenda is a prosperous Pakistan.” Hinting at the future 'unity government', Nawaz Sharif said that it is the responsibility of all parties to come together to form the government and take Pakistan out of the current crisis.

Sharif, a three-time prime minister, said, “It is not just me or Ishaq Dar's responsibility. This is everyone's Pakistan. Pakistan can come out of this crisis only if we all work together.

He said that Pakistan needs at least 10 years of stability. I want to tell those who are in a confrontational mood that we do not want war. Pakistan cannot afford this. We all should sit together and solve the issues and take Pakistan into 21st century but we couldn't because of our mistake.

Shahbaz will meet many leaders tonight: Nawaz

However, Nawaz Sharif also admitted that the PML-N did not have enough numbers to form a government at the Centre, so he requested his former alliance partners to sit together and form a unity government. He said, “I have entrusted Shahbaz Sharif to work on it tonight. I have asked them to meet Asif Ali Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also said that the current situation of Pakistan does not allow another crisis. The first meeting to form the alliance will be held tonight and will be attended by Shehbaz Sharif and other party members. He said that his party has won majority not only in the center but also in Punjab. We will serve the Center as well as Punjab.

Necessity of good relations with neighbours: Nawaz

Addressing his supporters the day after voting, Nawaz Sharif said that his government wants to build good relations with the whole world, especially with Pakistan's immediate neighbours.

On the other hand, 4 members of the Nawaz Sharif family of the PML-N party have won the National Assembly seats from Lahore, the capital of Punjab, their stronghold in the general elections. Earlier, the Sharif family, who looked disappointed after seeing the results against them on Thursday night, felt happy today when the commission announced their victory in 4 constituencies of Lahore.

In these seats, candidates supporting former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, were leading by a large margin. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif won from NA-130 seat, his daughter Maryam Nawaz from NA-119 seat, Nawaz's nephew (49) Hamza Shehbaz won from NA-118 seat. Nawaz's younger brother and former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif (72) has also won from NA-123 seat.

PML-N should accept its defeat – PTI

On the other hand, Imran Khan's PTI has issued a statement asking PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif to accept his defeat. However, PML-N rejected this demand of PTI and claimed victory in the elections.

PTI claimed on the social media platform that Form 45 is the primary source of election results at the grassroots level and shows the votes cast by each candidate at each polling station. PTI said, “According to independent reports, PTI has won more than 150 seats in the National Assembly. Also, it is in a strong position to form the government in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
