Punjab Farmers: The Punjab government is constantly making efforts to overcome the difficulties of the farmers. In such a situation, now the government is trying to remove the obstacles in planting other crops with the intention of promoting alternative crops of paddy.

In view of this, the government is now planning to fix the rate of basmati besides bringing some crops including soft rice under the crop insurance scheme and if the rate goes below this, the government will buy the crop. Releasing a video, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that certain crops including cotton will be brought under crop insurance to protect farmers from damage caused by pink bollworm or aphids.

Sharing his agenda regarding saffron crops with the farmers, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the government is keen to promote alternative crops of paddy. For this I have formed a committee headed by the Chief Secretary, which will study and tell what crops can be grown other than paddy. This committee will report to him.

Bhagwant Mann said that earlier there were different types of crops in Punjab but gradually we have shifted towards paddy and wheat due to which many problems have arisen in front of us. Because of this, the ground water has gone down in 80 percent of the area of Punjab. We have to make additional arrangements for electricity. The straw problem has also caused a lot of damage to the environment.

Water will reach every farmer’s fields

The Chief Minister said that the farmers had told him during the Kisan Milni that if water is released in the canals on April 1 and brought to the tails, then the area under irrigation can increase as the cotton plants planted during this period will become stronger. Insects attack it less.

Keep an eye on the water stoppers being placed

CM Mann assured the farmers that water will reach all tails by April 1. He said that earlier influential farmers used to grab most of the water to grow khaal in collusion with big politicians. I have asked all deputy commissioners, district police chiefs and vigilance officers to keep a watch on such people. Not only this, farmers will also be given 33 percent subsidy on cotton seeds.

The price of Basmati will be assured

He said that Basmati is a better option than cotton, he said that Markfed has been asked to ensure the price of Basmati, if the rate in the market falls below this rate then all Basmati will be purchased by Markfed. Apart from this, two labs are also being set up in Chugaon and Jalandhar blocks, which will ensure that pesticides do not exceed the permissible limit. He said that this is being done so that there is no problem while exporting basmati to foreign countries.

The Chief Minister made this appeal to the farmers

Bhagwant Mann said that the mongoose crop was encouraged last year. But experts have informed that it should not be sown in Narme area, so it should not be sown in Mansa, Bathinda, Muktsar and Fazilka districts. Mann said that while 2500 farmer friends will be appointed, 100 supervisors will also be appointed to look after the crops.
