Calgary 20 Aug 2023, (Punjabi Newspaper Bureau) Progressive Cultural Association Calgary and Sikh Heritage International have been continuously striving to keep Punjabi theater alive abroad for the past several years. It was held in the packed hall of Red Stone Theatre. Earlier this year theater and film actor Anita Sabdish and then Lok Kala Manch Mandi Mullanpur under the direction of writer, director and actor Harkesh Chaudhary took place.

The famous dramatist, director and actor Dr. Sahib Singh won the hearts of a packed audience with his plays at the Redstone Theater in Calgary on Sunday, August 20th at the invitation of the Progressive Cultural Association Calgary and Sikh Heritage International! First he presented his famous play โ€œSamman Wali Dangโ€. This play, which takes a look into the life of the small peasantry, faced the crisis, struggle and challenges of the peasantry layer after layer.

Patar Bakhtawar Singh, while creating a dialogue with the Prime Minister’s chair, teases out such intricate riddles that the audience gasps. Forced to be dust with dust since childhood, the character slowly unravels the story of his family. Some of the scenes were very emotional, especially the death of the young son a day before the farmer’s daughter’s dola toran struck every soul. The achievement of this play was to present the farmer’s daughter-son relationship with the crops and the pain of living empty-handed. The script of the play was very lively, the effect was doubled by using very subtle symbols in the direction, the use of the screen placed on the shoulder in many ways was remarkable and Dr. Sahib Singh’s natural acting was like Suhage on gold.

The second play ‘Teri Kahani-Meri Kahani’ was presented by the artists of Progressive Arts Forum Calgary. This play was prepared in an 18-day workshop, which Dr. Written and directed by Sahib Singh. Presented in a different style, this play tells the story of Punjabis living in Canada. The relationship between three generations and the current challenges were presented in an interesting manner. Elderly and children living abroad have their own problems of understanding. Due to which children born in foreign countries suffer from the clash of two cultures. The young generation played an important part in the costumes and songs of the characters. The play conveys the message of getting freedom from cages to the audience in such a beautiful way that the audience feels moved. Many important and sharp questions have been raised in this play. Kamal Pandher, Navkiran Dhudike, Harpreet Kaur, Sandeep Gill, Jass Long, Paramjit Kaur, Kamal Sidhu, Bobby Dhillon, Jaskaran, Sunny, Sukhmani, Mannat, Inayat and Sahib Singh played their roles brilliantly. Such plays are the need of the hour, these artists have created a new history. Both plays will be long remembered by Calgary audiences.
