Bureau Report: After the verdict in the Punjab Haryana High Court, the state government had to withdraw the decision to cancel the panchayats. The opponents were raising questions, the government was facing huge embarrassment. But now the government is seen to be in action mode, on the advice of the officials, the government has taken this decision, 2 officers have been suspended, 2 senior officers have been suspended. The lack of coordination between the government and the officers is also clearly visible from this entire operation.

These 2 officers were suspended

Among the 2 officers suspended by the Hon’ble government, one is Dhirendra Tiwari, the Principal Secretary of the Panchayat Department and Gurpreet Singh Khaira, who is the Director of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department. Panchayat Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann found a technical flaw in the decision to dissolve AAP panchayats due to which he has ordered action against the officials. Minister Bhullar said that panchayat elections are a long process in which ward prisoners and women’s wards are reserved. A large number of employees are needed for this, but the way the flood situation is in Punjab, it is not possible. Therefore, we have applied to the court to reverse the decision of canceling the panchayats. He said that soon the government will announce panchayat elections to strengthen this most important pillar of democracy.

The High Court issued a reprimand

During the hearing on August 29, the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court made a strong comment on the decision to cancel the Panchayats and raised sharp questions on the Hon’ble government. Akali Dal leader Jagjit Singh Talwandi filed a public interest petition against the dissolution of panchayats in the High Court. In the petition, questions were raised regarding the premature dissolution of panchayats, on which the court reprimanded the Punjab government during the hearing. What happened that you were forced to take the decision to dissolve panchayats prematurely? How do you have the right to dissolve panchayats without the court saying? Was any survey done before disbanding panchayats? How can elected representatives be stripped of their powers? On the sharp questions of the court, the advocate general of the Punjab government, Vinod Ghai, sought time till August 31. In response to which on Thursday, the Advocate General said that the government withdraws the decision to cancel panchayats due to technical malfunction.
