Bureau report : The administration has claimed to resolve the helmet dispute of skater student Riaz Pratap Singh in Patdar. He will again participate in the Games on September 20. SDM of Pathar Navdeep Kumar said that Riaz Pratap Singh, a student of village Banwala, was asked to wear safety gear to protect himself from head injury during the school games.
A meeting was held between the child’s parents and sports administrators in the SDM office to resolve this issue. SDM Navdeep Kumar said that in future they will also ensure that all the players wear safety gear in all the games. He said that during the meeting with the child’s parents, it has also become clear that the child was not discriminated against on any basis. He was also disqualified for not wearing safety gear. That Riaz Pratap Singh will participate in these games on September 20 wearing safety gear with his consent.
SDM Navdeep Kumar said that in the previous games, all the children, irrespective of their religion, all wore safety gear to protect them from head injuries. The child was only asked to wear set-figures by the organizers of the game and it is not an issue of not being prevented from playing because of prejudice against a particular religion. He said that today the matter has been resolved by holding a meeting with the concerned parties.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has protested against forcing children to wear helmets and removing them from sports. He said that in Sikhism, it is forbidden to wear a cap. But despite this, pressure was put on the child, when he refused, he was expelled from the games. Before this, special helmets are being prepared for Sikh soldiers in the Indian Army, which was strongly opposed by Jathedar Harpreet Singh. He had said that if it is not stopped then the Sikh army will never accept it. They termed it an interference in the freedom of religion.
