The central government has formed a committee on one country, one election. According to news agency PTI, former President Ram Nath Kovind has been made its president. Its notification may be issued today.

The central government has called a special session of Parliament from September 18 to September 22. It is possible that the government will also bring a bill on one country, one election.

A committee constituted by the Center will look into the legal aspects of One Country One Election. Also for this opinion will be taken from common people. Meanwhile, BJP president JP Nadda reached Kovind’s house to meet him. However, the reason for this meeting has not been revealed.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha here and Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary said why the government suddenly needed one country, one election.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh TS Singhdev said – I personally welcome one country, one election. This is not a new idea, it is an old idea.

The government said – now the committee has been formed, what is there to worry about
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said, ‘Now the committee has been formed, what is the point of worrying so much? The report of the committee will come, then it will be discussed in the public domain. There will be a discussion in Parliament. Just because the committee has been formed does not mean that it will happen tomorrow.

The opposition party said- the government should have been taken into confidence first

Shiv Sena (Udhav faction) MP Sanjay Raut said that BJP is afraid of India. One Nation, One Election is being taken to divert attention from the issues.

SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav said that this government is breaking all principles of parliamentary system. If a special session was to be convened, the government should have held talks with all opposition parties, at least informally. Now nobody knows what is the agenda and whether the session has been called or not.

What is One Nation-One Election?
One country-one election or one country-one election means that Lok Sabha and Assembly elections should be held simultaneously across the country. After independence, Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were held simultaneously in 1952, 1957, 1962 and 1967, but in 1968 and 1969, several assemblies were dissolved prematurely. After this, the Lok Sabha was also dissolved in 1970. Due to this, the tradition of one country-one election was broken.

Modi in support of one nation-one election
Soon after the Modi government came to power at the Center in May 2014, the debate about one country and one election started. Modi has advocated One Nation-One Election several times. On the occasion of Constitution Day, Prime Minister Modi once said – Today, one country, one election is no longer just a matter of debate. This is the need of India. Therefore, this issue should be discussed and studied in depth.
