The biggest record of MSP payment by Punjab government

Lal Chand Kataruchak: The Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has set the record for disbursing minimum support price of Rs 11,394 crore to farmers till April 23, 2023, surpassing the record set by its own government after coming to power. A new example has been set by defeating.

Sharing these details, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said that since the present Punjab government assumed office, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has adopted a pro-farmer attitude, which is confirmed by facts and figures.

Comparing the data of farmers’ payments till April 23 in previous years, the minister said that till this date this year, Rs 11,394 crore has been released directly to farmers’ bank accounts, which is more than the record of previous years. It may be mentioned that Rs 11,288 crore was paid till the same date last year. Earlier till this date the highest payments were made in the years 2018-19, 2013-14 and 2017-18 at ₹7568 crore, ₹6745 crore and ₹6418 crore respectively.

The minister said that during 2020-21 and 2019-20, the farmers had not received even Rs 300 crore till this date while in the year 2015-16 the payments had not even started. He said that this is the result of the sincere efforts made by the present state government to further improve the process of wheat procurement and eliminate corrupt practices. The minister further said that the present government is taking a proactive approach to compensate the loss or at least pay the full price despite the reduction imposed by the Center on the minimum support price.
