While presiding over a review meeting with a team of Returned Tax Commissionerate officials studying the Telangana GST administration at Udyog Bhavan, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the digital technologies adopted through the newly established Tax Intelligence Unit (TUI) will improve the tax system. are proving to be effective in assisting tax authorities in better enforcement, broadening the tax base and preventing evasion.
He encouraged the officials to explore technical solutions that can be tailored to the needs of the state to prevent any potential tax evasion, misreporting and administrative errors.
Meanwhile, the team returning from the Telangana tour shared their experiences on the study tour of the state and elaborated on the best practices adopted by Telangana in GST administration. A PowerPoint presentation was given by the team outlining the practices followed by Telangana such as online monitoring system, compliance of returns, verification of returns, post refund audit etc.
He apprised the Finance Minister that Telangana is being assisted by IIT Hyderabad in developing data analytics and IT based modules required for effective implementation of GST administration.
Cheema asked the team to formulate a strategy to integrate the best practices of Telangana with the best practices being adopted by Punjab. He said that with these technical solutions honest people should not have any problem and these technical solutions should meet the changing needs of digital tax administration.
Apart from others, Finance Commissioner Kar Vikas Pratap and Tax Commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav were also present in this meeting.
