The Spanish National Police has arrested six people in Malaga and Murcia who falsified residence cards for illegal immigrants.
In a statement released today, Spain’s Ministry of the Interior said that these people were part of a criminal organization that provided illegal immigrants with forged residency cards that would allow them to work in Spain, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
The immigrants were forced to pay €200 per month while working with the documentation they had forged. Meanwhile, being included in this criminal network benefited about €1,800 per year for each person.
During the police operation, two entries and controls were made in the cities of Malaga and Murcia, where more than 50 false documents from different countries, €400 in cash, nine mobile phones, a laptop and various computer storage effects were seized.
“The criminal organization, which was based in the cities of Murcia and Malaga, falsified residence cards outside of Spain, on the African continent. The members of the network sold this documentation to citizens of Nigerian nationality who were residing illegally in national territory. To do this, they had to pay an amount of money for the card and then another monthly sum to pay for its use,” the statement reads.
As the Ministry explains, in order to get the fake document, the immigrants had to first make a payment of €500 to €600 and then get the cards in the city of Murcia, where the organization gave them the documentation and accommodated them in apartments.
Last week, Spain’s civil police also detained three people for forging all kinds of travel documents and facilitating irregular migration. In this regard, the Ministry emphasised that these people are Romanian, Moroccan and Spanish citizens.
The Ministry also noted that the arrested persons belonged to a criminal organization that possessed weapons and was involved in crimes against public health.
Whereas at the beginning of February, the Spanish authorities arrested 19 people for encouraging and facilitating illegal migration from North Africa to Spain.
According to the Ministry, the persons in question were arrested in two different locations – in Almeria and Tarragona. During the operation, the Spanish police also checked seven houses and several farms located in the village during which they discovered that this criminal group used boats to bring migrants to Spain and paid up to €5,000 per person.
