South Korea's parliament has approved a landmark law outlawing the centuries-old practice of eating dog meat. The bill would make it illegal to kill, breed, trade and sell dog meat for human consumption from 2027. and such acts shall be punishable by two to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million Korean won (about $23,000).

Under the bill, anyone who rears dogs for consumption or knowingly buys dog food, transports or sells it elsewhere, can face a lesser fine and imprisonment. 3 years time has been given to people who keep dogs for food purpose, run restaurants related to it and other people related to this business.
