The Modi government has called a special session of Parliament. This session will run from September 18 to 22. Sonia Gandhi said in her letter that the opposition is not aware of the agenda of the special session. Usually, before the special session, negotiations are held and consensus is reached. Its agenda is also fixed in advance and efforts are made to build consensus. This is the first time a meeting is being called and an agenda has not been set and no consensus has been sought.
Sonia said that all the five days of this special session have been allotted for government business, which is unfortunate. He has also raised nine issues in his letter to PM Modi.
The former Congress president said in the letter that the opposition wants to discuss these 9 issues. These include inflation, MSME, unemployment, farmers’ demands, JPC demand on Adani issue, caste census, Centre-State relations, China border and social harmony.
Sonia Gandhi raised the issue
1- Current economic situation focusing on rising prices of essential commodities, rising unemployment, rising inequalities and distress of MSMEs
2- Promises made by the government to farmers and farmers’ organizations regarding MSP
3- JPC to investigate the revelations on Adani Group
4- Suffering of the people of Manipur and breakdown of constitutional machinery and social harmony in the state
5- Communal tension in states like Haryana
6- Continued encroachment of Indian territory by China and challenge to our sovereignty on our borders in Ladakh-Arunachal Pradesh.
7- There is an urgent need for caste census
8- Centre-state relations are being damaged
9- Effects of natural disasters due to extreme floods in some states and drought in others
The opposition will not boycott the special session
Sonia Gandhi said in the letter that I fully hope that these issues will be raised in the spirit of constructive cooperation in the coming special session.
