Sikh scholar Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi honored with Padma Shri Award

Padma Shri Award to Sikh scholar Dr Rattan Singh Jaggi: The President of India, Draupadi Murmu, conferred the prestigious Padma Shri on eminent educationist and Sikh scholar Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi in a special ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday evening.

Eminent Sikh scholar Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi was given this award by the President in the presence of Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi besides several Union Ministers.

Let us tell you that this prestigious award has been given to Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi for his valuable contribution in the field of education and literature. Over 90 years of age, Dr. Jaggi is a renowned scholar of Hindi and Punjabi and has special expertise in Gurmat and Bhakti movement literature. He has dedicated more than 70 years of his life in the service of Punjabi-Hindi literature and Gurmat literature. In 1962 he received his PhD degree in ‘Puranic Studies of Dasham Granth’ from Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Know Dr. About Ratan Singh Jaggi

In the year 2013 Dr. Jaggi prepared a comprehensive treatise titled “Bhav Prabodhani Tika Sri Guru Granth Sahib” which was published by Punjabi University Patiala in 8 volumes. In this, the verses of Sri Guru Granth Sahib are explained in detail and it is proving useful for the Sangat and especially for the Sikh world. In the year 2017, he has published the entire Guru Granth Sahib in Hindi in five parts.

Dr. Jaggi honored with 1989 National Award

In view of these achievements Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi was awarded the National Award by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi in the year 1989. Apart from this, the highest award “Punjabi Sahitya Shiromani Ratna” was given by the Punjab Government in 1996. From the year 1964 to 1976, his books were awarded the first prize eight times by the Language Department of the Punjab Government. The first award for his book was also given by the Haryana government in 1968. Awarded Dharma-Sahit Samman in the year 2010 by Punjabi Akademi under Delhi Government.

Honors from UP Government and University

In 1996, the Souhard Award was given by the Hindi Institute of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. In recognition of his literary services, Punjabi University Patiala conferred honorary degrees in 2014 and Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar in 2015. Apart from this, Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi has been honored by many writers, social workers and religious organizations in view of his services.

Providing services even at the age of 95 years

Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi is giving his best and valuable literary services to the society even at the age of 95 years. He has dedicated about 144 books to the society so far. He has been awarded Life Fellowship by Punjabi University, Patiala.
