In the 2009 elections, when Navjot Singh Sidhu contested from Amritsar for the third time as a joint candidate of BJP and Akali Dal, he won by a margin of only a few thousand votes from Congress candidate OP Soni. He publicly thanked Majithia and said that he could not have won if he did not get the lead from Majitha constituency. When there was animosity between Majithia and Sidhu, Majithia often presented a video of Sidhu’s same statement. After this, when Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu became the MLA from Amritsar Purvi, she was the parliamentary secretary in the government. There used to be a Badal family. It was only from here that the rivalry between the two started, Navjot Singh Sidhu along with his wife started making statements against Badal and Majithia. In 2014, the Akali Dal persuaded Sidhu’s political guru Arun Jaitley to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar to settle the score, the party cut Sidhu’s ticket and fielded Arun Jaitley from Amritsar, but this claim of the Akali Dal backfired. Sidhu stayed away from capping and Jaitley lost badly to Captain Amarinder Singh. After this, BJP gave Rajya Sabha ticket to Naraz Sidhu, Sidhu took oath but he resigned from Rajya Sabha after some time.
Left BJP in 2016
Navjot Singh Sidhu left BJP in 2016 because of Badal family and Majithia. He had told this reason many times behind leaving BJP. He had claimed that he used to ask the BJP to break its alliance with the Akali Dal. After joining the Congress, during the 2017 elections, only 2 names were targeted by Sidhu, one was Sukhbir Singh Badal and the other was Bikram Singh Majithia. After the formation of the Congress government, Navjot Singh Sidhu surrounded the then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh several times regarding the investigation of the drug case against Majithia, the result of which was that Captain had to lose his seat after Sidhu’s pressure. Sidhu made several personal attacks against Majithia and Majithia also left no stone unturned. The rivalry between the two can be inferred from the fact that to defeat Sidhu in the 2022 elections, Majithia left his constituency and contested against Sidhu from Amritsar Purvi. Although both the leaders were defeated, the purpose with which Majithia had come had done his job. Sidhu had pressured the Channi government to file a case against Majithia, the result of which was that Majithia was arrested in a drug case and had to go to jail for 6 months, after which Sidhu also went to jail in a road raid case. Both were lodged in Patiala Jail. Even when Majithia came out of jail, he had a lot of trouble with Sidhu, although Sidhu did not make any statement against Badal and Majithia after coming out of jail.
