MumbaiShiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant on Saturday rejected the Election Commission’s claim that the amendments made to the party constitution in 2018 were not on its record. The Election Commission on Friday allotted the name ‘Shiv Sena’ and its election symbol ‘bow and arrow’ to the group led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. It is being considered as a major setback for Uddhav Thackeray.

The commission had noted that the respondent (Thackeray faction) had heavily relied upon the 2018 constitution of the party to lay claim to the symbol and organisation, but the party had not informed the commission about the amendment in the constitution. The Election Commission said that the constitution of Shiv Sena as amended in 2018 is not on record of the commission.
