Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has strongly condemned the government’s bullying of women Olympian wrestlers who were sitting on dharna for justice at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Shiromani Committee General Secretary Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal said that coercion by the government apparatus against those who raise voice for human rights is a stain on democracy. He said that on the one hand, the newly formed Parliament was being inaugurated for the country and on the other hand, the women wrestlers who were shining the name of the country were being tortured, which has shamed the entire country.

Bhai Grewal said that according to the instructions of the Shiromani Committee and President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, a delegation of the Shiromani Committee was supposed to join in support of the dharna brought by these wrestlers for justice at Jantar Mantar, but due to the forced sit-in by the government yesterday, this program was cancelled. Postponed for now. He said that the Shiromani Committee stands firmly with these women wrestlers who are fighting for their rights and will give them full support in whatever program is made.

Bhai Grewal also objected to this point, whenever the Sikh community stands with those who fight for human rights according to its history and traditions, a negative narrative is created by some people. He said that Sikhs have always made sacrifices to protect the country and Sikhs do not need to learn patriotism from anyone.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Shiromani Committee said that it is a pity that the girls who have brought glory to the country by winning medals in sports are being bullied today. He said that instead of listening to these girls by the government, they are being dragged on the streets. He said that the Shiromani Committee has always stood with these girls against this bullying.
