Ingredients to make Kara Chutney
Tomato – 2
Onion – 1
Garlic cloves – 2
Tamarind – 1 small piece
Urad Dal – 1 tbsp
Chana dal – 1 tbsp
Dry Kashmiri red chili – 2-3
salt – as per taste
water – as needed

for tempering
Rye – 3/4 tsp
Urad Dal – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 10-12
Oil – 2 tsp

How to make Kara Chutney
To make Kara Chutney, first take a nonstick pan and heat 2 spoons of oil in it. After the oil is hot, add urad dal, chana dal and dry red chillies and fry them. When the color of the dal turns golden brown, add finely chopped onion and chopped garlic cloves to it, mix well and cook until the color of the onion turns light brown.

After this, add finely chopped tomatoes to the mixture and cook it until the tomatoes become soft. After this, turn off the gas and let the mixture cool down. When the mixture becomes slightly warm, shift it into a mixer jar and add a piece of tamarind and salt as per taste. Add 3-4 tablespoons of water to the jar and blend all the ingredients well to make a smooth paste. Take out the prepared paste in a big bowl.

Now put 2 tsp oil in a small pan and heat it. After the oil is hot, put mustard seeds and urad dal in it. After a few seconds add curry leaves and let them crackle. After the tempering is ready, spread it all over the chutney kept in the bowl and then mix it well with the help of a spoon. Tasty Kara Chutney is ready. Serve it with idli-dosa or other South Indian dish.
