Bureau report : Section 144 has been implemented in Mohali. District Magistrate, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Ashika Jain have given instructions for this. Section 144 has been implemented under the Criminal Code, 1973. The purpose behind imposition of Section 144 is to curb the ever-increasing sit-ins in Mohali. District Sahibzada said in his orders that Sahibzada has issued orders to completely ban dharnas and rallies within the limits of Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali).
The DM’s orders have made it clear that gatherings of 5 or more people, rallies, sit-ins and demonstrations will be strictly prohibited. This order will be applicable from 20.09.2023 to 19.11.2023 in District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar.
District Magistrate Ashika Jain said that it has come to our notice that usually the common people face difficulties when various organizations hold sit-ins for their demands in District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. Apart from this, doing so may damage government properties and cause loss of life and property. He said that due to this the law and order situation may also be disturbed. In view of this situation, these orders have been implemented to stop these actions.
