The Supreme Court has reprimanded Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali Ayurveda. This reprimand is issued for publishing misleading claims and advertisements against the modern medicine system. The Indian Medical Association had filed a petition against the misleading advertisements.

A bench of Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra heard the matter. Justice Amanullah said that Patanjali Ayurved must immediately stop all advertisements containing false and misleading claims. The court will take any such violation very seriously and may impose a penalty of up to Rs 1 crore for each false claim made on a product.

The court then directed that Patanjali Ayurveda not publish any such advertisement in future and also ensure that such absurd statements are not made in the press. The bench also said that it did not want to turn the issue into an ‘allopathy vs ayurveda’ debate but wanted to find a real solution to the problem of misleading medical advertisements.
