Sandhwa assured to give all possible help to the farmers who are cultivating pepper in Ferozepur belt

Punjab Farmers: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan emphasized on finding a solution to the problems faced by the farmers cultivating pepper in Ferozepur belt and border area.

During a meeting with experts and officials of Farmers and Agriculture Department, Punjab Mandi Board, Punjab Agro Export Corporation and Markfed at the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat, Sandhawan said that cold stores and drying of chillies should be done for the farmers cultivating chillies in Ferozepur belt and border area. Installation of low-cost solar dryers is the need of the hour and all possible support will be provided by the Punjab Government to solve the problems of the pepper-growers.

He said that a proposal in this regard will be prepared by Markfed and Punjab Agro and sent to the Chief Minister of Punjab. He said that the state government is committed to increase the income of pepper farmers, provide good and high yielding seeds and provide all technical assistance for processing and selling.

The speaker said that the state government will provide all possible help to the pepper farmers in terms of good crop, timely marketing and processing, adequate price of cultivation and profit. He told the officials that Ferozepur region has a good production of other vegetables besides chillies, so appropriate efforts should be made for the cultivation of chillies as well as other vegetables.

On this occasion, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that there is a big business of chillies in Ferozepur area. He said that the Department of Agriculture and the Punjab Agricultural University are ready to provide training to the farmers regarding the cultivation, processing and branding of chillies so that the farmers can get maximum benefits.

He said that a joint committee of Agriculture Department, Punjab Mandi Board and officials of Punjab Agro and Markfed will be formed, which will give their suggestions on promotion of chilli growers and various other arrangements. He said that vendors selling seeds without receipt will be dealt with strictly and pepper seeds will be ensured at the stipulated price.

In this meeting, MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar, MLA Rajnish Kumar Dahia, MLA Fauja Singh Sarari, MLA Naresh Kataria, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal Vice Chancellor Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana, Mahinder Singh Sidhu Chairman Panseed, Mangal Singh Chairman Punjab Agri Export Corporation Limited, Rahul Gupta Additional Secretary Agri and MD Markfed, Dalwinderjit Singh Additional Secretary Mandi Board Apart from Agriculture University Ludhiana, Punjab Agro, Panseed , Punjab Horticulture Department, Punjab Mandi Board, Markfed senior officials, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur, Joint Registrar Co-operative Societies Ferozepur and pepper farmers were present.
