Sachhi Saheli’s Period Fest and Pad Yatra for Menstrual Awareness

‘Sachhi Saheli’, a Delhi based NGO advocating sexual and reproductive health with focus on menstrual and adolescent health, in collaboration with IndusInd Bank is going to start its ‘Period Fest and Pad Yatra’ on Saturday, 4th February at 9:00 am is organizing. Hundreds of students, teachers, counselors from Delhi government and NDMC schools will participate in the ‘Menstrual Health and Awareness Day’ at Central Park, Connaught Place.

After gathering in the Central Park of Connaught Place, everyone will take out a foot march across Connaught Plate with slogans of ‘period positivity’. Dr. Surbhi Singh, head of Sachi Saheli, told that a lot of conservative things are propagated in the society regarding period. We have to make people aware about this. He said that we are bringing out the scientific facts regarding menstruation. There is an attempt to break the myths related to this.

Dr. Surbhi Singh said that even in modern times menstruation is like a punishment for a woman or a girl. While this is a normal and natural process. We are constantly talking to people about this. Especially the male members of the family are being made aware and good results are coming.

Dr. Surbhi Singh told that even today conservative thinking is prevalent in our society regarding menstruation. There is a need to break this thinking. He said that girls are prohibited from washing hair, eating curd, not entering the kitchen during menstruation, which is completely wrong.

Surbhi Singh told that she has been organizing this program for the last many years through Sachhi Saheli. In this program, efforts are made to create awareness about periods through street plays, dance, music and other mediums. He told that world beauty Manushi Chhillar has also participated in this program.
