Royal Enfield sales up 27 percent in January, exports down 22 percent

Royal Enfield, which has held a major share in the power bike segment in the country for the past several decades, reported total sales of 74,746 units in January including exports. This is an increase of 27 percent on a year-on-year basis. Royal Enfield sold 58,838 units in the same month last year.

Royal Enfield Domestic sales was 67,702 units. This is an increase of 36.2 percent over the previous year. However, its exports declined by 22.7 percent to 7,044 units. Exports stood at 9,112 units in the same month last year. Royal Enfield CEO, B Govindarajan said, “We have started the new year with an encouraging performance in the domestic market. The Super Meteor 650, launched in India and Europe last month, has received a great response and has registered strong initial bookings ”

The new Super Meteor 650 is the third motorcycle in the company’s current lineup to use the 648cc parallel twin engine. This engine generates power of 47 bph at 7,250 rpm and peak torque of 52.3 Nm at 5,650 rpm. It has been launched in India at an initial price of Rs 3,48,900 (ex-showroom). Apart from the standard, the company has launched a Solo Tourer Interstellar variant priced at Rs 3,63,900 (ex-showroom) and a Grand Tourer Celestial variant priced at Rs 3,78,900 (ex-showroom).

It gets forward-set footpegs and a low and spread stance. The Super Meteor 650 is said to be the most modern Royal Enfield yet as it uses 43 mm Showa inverted telescopic forks and is the first 650cc motorcycle from RE to come equipped with tripper navigation. It includes LED headlamp and USB charging port. The bike draws power from a 648 cc parallel twin engine that can generate 47 hp at 7,250 rpm and 52.3 Nm at 5,650 rpm. It is built on a tubular steel frame. It gets 120mm of travel up front, which is a first for any Royal Enfield motorcycle. It gets 101mm travel for the twin shock absorbers at the rear. The motorcycle has a 19-inch wheel at the front and a 16-inch wheel at the rear.
