While appreciating Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s recent pilot project of Digiclaim, Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Sahni has requested him to include Punjab in Digiclaim as well. With the introduction of DigiClaim, farmers can receive crop damage claims electronically in their accounts. Sahni, who is also the chairman of the BRICS Agriculture Council, has requested the Union Agriculture Minister to start DigiClaim work in Punjab as well. About 15 percent of crops have been lost due to unseasonal heavy rains for the last three years.

He thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for taking immediate notice of crop damage and ordering an increase in cash compensation to farmers by 25 percent over last year.
Sahni said that it is our duty to protect the economic interests of our rice donors. This crop insurance scheme is a great tool to deal with natural calamities caused by heavy rains, storms, insects like pink bollworm etc. where the maximum premium payable by farmers for saffron and rubber crops will be 2 percent and 1.5 percent respectively. . While the rest will be shared equally by the state and the central government.

Sahni said that the prices of wheat are increasing due to crop damage, due to which there is fear of rising inflation. According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, wheat prices were set to increase by 14% in 2022. Optimizing cash compensation and crop insurance schemes to farmers will help them earn more fixed income and keep crop price hikes and inflation under control.
